Owl's Eyes

Owl's Eyes (Otus asio)

I went back to the coast last weekend to visit the Screech Owl again and it didn't disappoint. There were four other photographers there at the time and had been waiting for the bird to open its eyes for hours. One couple told me they'd been there 3 and a half hours. Anyway, they decided to call it a day and I decided to wait because what were the chances the owl would do something right after they left???? Isn't that always the way? Anyway, sure enough, not five minutes after the last person left a flock of Blue Jays showed up. I could hear them a few minutes before they got to the Owl's tree and the second I heard the first Jay the Owl swivled its head and opened its eyes. A minute later the Jays landed in the tree, obviously planning on harassing the Owl and this guy, fast as lightening popped down in its hole and the show was over. But, I did get my owl shot showing these beautiful eyes!

A fabulous close-up capture of this impressive bird. Marvellous feather detail and great stare. It's funny, but when I think "owl" ,I expect very bright yellow eyes and here the irises look very pale ,almost blueish , which in my view adds strength to the stare.

Deanne what a story behind this utter beautyful capture. It was worth while waiting to see his eyes. Just love the details.:t::t::t:
