My lifer Painted Bunting, a female bird that showed up at the home of another birder (a friend) who lives just a short bus ride away. With the popularity of this species - especially the colorful males, which I have yet to see - in the Mexican cage bird trade, provenance is always in question for vagrant Painted Buntings in California. Nevertheless, most of us treated this as a wild bird, and many other birders traveled from much further away just to see it.
