Painted Button-quail
I assume that this tiny beauty is a male, not that I've seen the female to compare with. And I *do* mean tiny - look at the moss to give you an idea of the size.

Painted Button-quail are supposed to be moderately common. If so, they are nevertheless elusive: this was the first one I've ever seen, though years ago I did once spend 20 minutes stalking a "Painted Button-quail" which, once I got close enough, magically morphed itself into a rusty coke can!

Nothing rusty about this shot...its beautiful!! Smashing shot of a very aptly named bird.

A superb shot! I've never seen one of these - well, on second thought - I'm not sure what that was that streaked upwards from two inches in front of my boot. It was small, and utterly panic-stricken - and gone... :-C and if I'd only seen it in time...
