I love the vivid sense of life in this image, the sandpiper standing out so boldly from the background, with the perfect head turn. What lovely habitat, squelchy underfoot (bringing back what it's like to have come in unsuitable footwear, and beginning to regret it), albeit more congenial to the bird, whose proper home it is. Maybe those golden-fringed feathers mean it's a young bird.
This was one of the first species I drove a longish way to see as a rarity here. Happy days.
