Pelagic Cormorant (Phalacrocorax pelagicus)

A bit of a misnomer as this species is usually seen close to shore. Unlike most birds, cormorants have wettable feathers increasing their specific gravity and enabling them to more easily pursue prey underwater. Here is a video: https://youtu.be/mVyImbEjgcs
Location
Half Moon Bay, California, USA
Date taken
30 August 2020
Scientific name
Phalacrocorax pelagicus
Equipment used
Canon PowerShot SX60 HS
