Pensive robin on a gloomy day

Pensive robin on a gloomy day (Erithacus rubecula)

I was going to post three shots of the Coscoroba Swans today, but today was the day I went through the Bergen papers and found Jan van den Broeck's obituary, so I thought I'd trade one swan shot for this pensive robin, shot on a rather gloomy day in Linz, just after my first round of checking the Bergen papers, as Delia asked me to do since she hadn't heard from Jan for a while. Such sad news. He was still a young man (55) and a very productive scientist (public health research). It's a field my own work sometimes tangents, but I'd yet to run into Jan at a conference. I'd only "met" him at Bird Forum, where I admired his photos from far and wide - probably taken when traveling to conferences, as many of my shots are - and appreciated his generous comments. He will be much missed by family, colleagues, and us here at BF.

I can't thank you enough for checking up for me, as I was so worried when my e-mails went unanswered and then got bounced back.
