Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus)

Well I'm over the moon this weekend as my birding friend and I got pics of this wonderful juvenile Peregrine Falcon. My friend Chris is quite a good birder and spotted this bird in town a few time over the last several months and it was spotted again on the Christmas Bird Count on the top of a church located on a street adjacent to the Nashua River. We've both been trying to locate the bird again over the last couple weeks and finally had success on Saturday. We first spotted it again on the steeple but then it flew after a gull and disappeared over the other side of the river. So back in the car to make the circuit of likely spots to find it again and this time the bird was in a dead tree adjacent to the bridge that crosses the river. We had some great time photographing the bird, but it required climbing through four foot snow banks on the bridge (in traffic, yikes) but success!!! We got the first pics of a Peregrine in our city that I know of. Very exciting stuff. So hoping we can eventually have a breeding pair here. The Bald Eagles are also making a comeback and are being seen in more numbers here. Sooo happy to have the great birds back here after so many years of absence.

Many thanks for the comments my friends, it was so exciting to see this wonderful bird.

Congratulations Deanne, what a great story and image to back it up. Special for me as in the 80's when I was living about 3 miles from where they were being reintroduced along the Miss. river in WI.
Thank you.

Breathtaking shot Deanne. Superb focus and angle. You've picked up lots of lovely detail and the colours through the whole image are sublime! Congrats on enjoying this beautiful bird. :t: ;)
