Pin-Tailed Whydah (Vidua macroura)

I don't normally post feeder birds as they are sometimes to easy to take ( Like zoo birds and turkey shoots). However this little guy has come to visit a few times and I though I would post him. Difficult to take and post due to size restrictions as the tail is very long and the bird very small.
Location
Durbanville Cape Town
Date taken
28-9-2008
Scientific name
Vidua macroura
Equipment used
Olympus E-520 70-300
Actually the feeder balances out the long tail. I was in South Africa last month and saw one in flight but alas, got no shot. Very nice image.

Thanks for the remarks. This is one of 2 males that visit the other has a shorter tail. These are quite aggressive little birds and chase others of the feeders, that is until the meet the psychotic masked and cape weavers who sorted them out in short time. The smaller one now feeds off the ground. They are very active and always on the move with quite a loud screeching call. The female is of course and mousy brown colour with a yellow stripe on the eye.

Super bird Col, I dont care if its on a feeder mate, its just good to see specimens such as this, nice shot, and keep on posting em.

That is a nice feeder bird. It would be nice to notice one of these at my feeder.. ;) Thanks for this! :t:
