Pine Siskin

Pine Siskin (Carduelis pinus)

The weather was abysmal the last few days with no light and when there was a bit yesterday it became thick with fog. I tried to get some pics but to no avail. Two day's work wound up binned. Quite bummed out about it actually as I had some potentially good Hairy and Red-bellied Woodpecker shots but they weren't sharp enough to post. Also, the Carolina Wren has been making more regular appearances as well. The sun will be shining today so I'm hoping for some success.

These sweet little Siskins are still showing up at the feeders from time to time and surprise me every time they do show up. My first reaction is still, "Now that's a heavily streaked House Finch". Then, of course I realize that it's the Pine Siskins. This shot was from mid-Nov. Hope you enjoy.

Beautiful shot, Deanne!
I thought we had a Pine Siskin in our garden the other day, but it was a female House Finch. It lacked the yellow edging on the wings, and it had the stubbier beak. We've also been sharing the abismal weather you've been having. I can't wait for some crisp sunny winter days. I'm sure they'll be here soon!

Thanks so much everyone for your kind comments!

Garry, no kidding about the nasty weather. I had about two hours of sun this AM but by the time I got outside it had gotten cloudy again. Tomorrow I believe is supposed to be more clouds and perhaps rain. Yukko!

It's a smashing little bird Deanne and you've certainly shown him off in his best light.
