Pine Siskin

Pine Siskin (Carduelis pinus)

Ive had the best time out in the hide the last couple days. It seems we are now truly having an irruption of Pine Siskins. From October through to this week Id only seen a few Siskins at a time in the feeders one to eight birds. Wednesday I noticed a lot of their chatter and when I settled in the hide and looked out there were HEAPS of birds everywhere. I counted 40 Pine Siskins and 35 Am. Goldfinches. What a crowd! The whole gang was back again yesterday so Im hoping the flock stays around for the rest of the winter. As Id said in the past this is my first year having them here so Im really enjoying this opportunity to observe and photograph them. I thought it pretty appropriate to have a pic of Pine Siskin on a White Pine branch, Hope you enjoy!

Yes Deanne, very appropriate setting. Excellent shot. Everyone here in NY is getting these guys at feeders this year also, but, not in the numbers you have seen. I think it is very much an irruptive year for them. Unfortunately doesn't seem to be so for Pine Grosbeaks this year like it was last year for us.
Anyway, super shot as usual.

:eek!: Staggering job once more, Deanne!!! :loveme: Your posts are like daily Christmas-treats!!! ;)
