Pine Siskin (Spinus pinus)

Well what a surprise I had yesterday! I looked out at the back garden and the trees and feeders were alive with Pine Siskins. I counted under and on one of the four feeders and there were 52 birds. All the feeders were showing that kind of activity and I didn't count the birds in the Mountain Ash and Oak trees. I conservatively estimated about 200 Siskins along with 32 American Goldfinches. What a treat to see such a flurry of activity.

Wow, wow, wow!!! o:) You've "frozen the activity" beautifully in thi shot, g/f!!! ;) What a stunning and exquisite detail in this portrait, love the soft hues too!!! A marvel, Deanne!!!

Many thanks for the kind comments everyone! LOL Tony, Spinus Pinus... has a ring to it doesnt it? and KC I've had a discussion with the Siskins today and told them they have to keep traveling south or they will eat me out of house and home. They went through five pounds of sunflower hearts in the last 24 hours!

I'm viewing "Autumnwatch" from the BBC, and they're talking about putting out Sunflower hearts and other such goodies to attract garden birds.. then I click on your gallery.... Lovely photo and bird, proves the seeds do their job if you've got a couple of hundred of these little beauties hanging around!

Superb capture Deanne. Haven't seen any in my yard yet this year, although my neighbor had 1 or 2 at her feeder the other day. Great job on this one.
