The Piping Plover in the Great Lakes area is an endangered species and the Northern Great Plains and Atlantic coast piping plovers are threatened species.
Stanley, again thank you. My thoughts exactly. This one has four bands. There are fewer than 100 breeding pairs around the Great Lakes; most in Michigan. Locally, there is a breeding pair on the city beach and has caused some concern. An area has been cordoned off and a protective cage placed over the nest but with summer approaching, there is fear that the eggs may not hatch. This male, is along the same shoreline but about 4 miles north.
