After the blood test, I walked out to the river bend where I've committed to doing a monthly count this year as part of the Eurasian Shorebird Survey. Thought I'd just check on the condition of the trails there - some of which had been blocked off temporarily for revegetation after a big sports center was built there last year. The trails are now open again, and some of the birds (especially the Mallards and Gulls) are back in massive numbers, eager for treats from passing pedestrians. This lady Goldeneye wasn't particularly interested in treats, but she also didn't mind posing for passing photographers.
