Prairie dog
There was a massive prairie dog town right by the road. Signs along the roadside warned tourists not to approach the prairie dogs as they might be carrying sylvatic plague. Sylvatic? Never heard of that. So when we got on-line at our hotel that night we looked it up: Same disease as bubonic plague. Called sylvatic when it infects wildlife, bubonic when it infects humans. The p.d.'s we saw seemed healthy enough, though.

Healthy enough until a hawk snatches one off the ground (lol). Great picture of this Prairie Dog Doc. I have always liked prairie dogs because to me they represent part of the untamed prairies of the past. TFS!!!

I wouldn't worry about it Ann, Bubonic Plague never hurt anyone! Oh no hold on a minute - come to think of it.... Anyway a cracking shot of a healthy looking P.D.

What a great picture you got of this PD Ann. Don't think I've seen a picture of one in here before?

Interesting information.... which sent me off googling too LOL. It doesn't sound like they'll will that disease out any time soon, does it.
