Puffin (Fratercula arctica)

I took this at Rathlin Island this weekend. Most of the borrows are at the bottom of a cliff viewed from half way down the adjoining cliff, still a long way away. But two burrows were on a ledge about 15m below the viewing platform. I waited 2 1/2 hrs for this little guy to come back, my hands were numb and I was frozen but I got an OK picture. A little later I saw a rabbit come out of the same burrow and very gingerly creep out a little to nibble some grass. A very precarious place to live if you are flightless

A lovely picture with his beakful of sand eels - I think that was worth waiting for, wasn't it!

A nicely angled shot and certainly worth the effort.
