Purple Finch

Purple Finch (Carpodacus purpureus)

I'm so very pleased to have finally gotten this handsome fellow. The Purple Finch is our State Bird and I've never seen the male PF here in our gardens during the thirty years we've lived here. On a couple occasions I've seen a female but never her handsome partner. Anyway I was startled to see him in the feeders yesterday (must say I did a bit of a fumble to get the camera pointed in the right direction as I was so excited!) and then he was a peach and flew up to a branch in the Mountain Ash tree and gave me a few nice poses with a bit of fall color in the BG. Made my day! Hope you enjoy!

Carpodacus purpureus

Canon 40D - Canon 500 F4 IS
No fumbling with the camera was evident in the quality of the product - just beautiful. I can feel the excitement from here. Have never seen this bird - I need to spend more time in NH!

One of my favorite finches. Didn't know it was the state bird, there. I've also learned that the males and females don't necessarily migrate in the same groups, nor at the same time. Which explains why you don't see the males. Males are also not as social as the females. They do make for a great image; as is seen here. Well done. :t: :t: :t: ;)

Splendid expressive portrait and I love the harmony in the colours in the whole image,Deanne :t::t::t:

:bounce: Impossible not to enjoy it, Deanne, an over-outstanding portrait of this pinkish beauty that masters the art of posing!!! :t: :t: :loveme:
