Purple Finch

Purple Finch (Carpodacus purpureus)

I'm so very pleased to have finally gotten this handsome fellow. The Purple Finch is our State Bird and I've never seen the male PF here in our gardens during the thirty years we've lived here. On a couple occasions I've seen a female but never her handsome partner. Anyway I was startled to see him in the feeders yesterday (must say I did a bit of a fumble to get the camera pointed in the right direction as I was so excited!) and then he was a peach and flew up to a branch in the Mountain Ash tree and gave me a few nice poses with a bit of fall color in the BG. Made my day! Hope you enjoy!

Just beautiful Deanne.

I cannot wait for these guys to arrive down here. Supposed to be an irruptive year for these guys and the Pine Siskins so keep your eyes open.

Thanks so much for your kind comments everyone!

KC, I'm really hoping I see more of these this winter. Just having a male show up finally is fantastic. If I can get some Pine Siskins in here that would be the frosting on the cake.

Digi, thanks for the info about these birds, I didn't realize that the males and females don't migrate together.

It's a superb image Deanne, and the colours are absolutely perfect for this bird - great work!
