I went to Workington Harbour hoping to see my first Purple Sandpipers of the autumn/winter. It is a good spot to see them and having got out of my car the first thing I saw was this bird poking about in the muddy puddles of a worksite beside the breakwater. It wasn't very photogenic but turned out to be the only Purple Sandpiper I saw all day. It did at least have a bit of purple sheen in the scapulars.
