"We'll weather the storms together!" (Arenaria interpres)

The Ruddy Turnstone breeds on the Arctic tundra in Alaska and Canada but winters in the United States on the Pacific, Atlantic, and Gulf Coasts. It was New Year's Day on the New Jersey coast. As these two (in nonbreeding plumage) faced the prospect of a cold, raw winter there among the rocks on the windswept Barnegat jetty, they seemed quite prepared to look out for each other!
Habitat
In winter, prefers rocky shores where it flips over small rocks and other debris looking for food.
Location
Barnegat Lighthouse State Park, Ocean County, New Jersey, USA
Date taken
01-Jan-2008
Scientific name
Arenaria interpres
Equipment used
Digiscoped with Nikon 12.1 MP Coolpix P5100 camera...Nikon FSB-6 Bracket...Nikon 30X Wide DS Eyepiece...Nikon ED82-A Fieldscope
