Rainbow Bee-eater

Rainbow Bee-eater (Merops ornatus)

Since finding this Bee-eater "hotspot'it has become a favourite location for me allbeit with the sand flies and mosquitoes that live in the mangroves. I used a technique of pre-focussing ahead of the birds inteded flight path and selecting a aperture/shutterspeed combination to give a reasonable chance for success. AF was useless in this situation due to the birds amazing agility and speed while feeding. Its incredible to watch! Concerntration and reflexes are key in this shooting situation and I must say I was a little ragged after a few hours of shooting. I think I was rewarded for my efforts though.
