Red-capped Plover (Charadrius ruficapillus)

After lunch that day, it was time to meet the rest of the tour group and take off on our first excursion. Our guides headed first towards a beach and creek area not far from Darwin. I didn't do very well with the distant birds in the glaring sun at this beach, but I did get quite a few lifers. I'll skip the Pacific Reef Heron, the Far-eastern Curlew, the Intermediate Egret, the Gull-billed Tern and some others I didn't get good shots of. This almost equally poor shot of a Red-capped Plover will have to represent that whole slew of distant, birds.

Lifers are always a treat. Bright light on beaches can always be a challenge, especially distant shot in those conditions. TFS Doc!

Took me some time to get a decent shot of one of these. Congratulations on all the lifers Ann!

Shame about the light Ann, a goodly try on this one mf, Tfs

The Young Swans were having a practice with the Adults but too far away to photograph them.

Congratulations ann, still a lovely record in those conditions. well done.....

That's a great record short and a lovely reminder of the beginning of your tour Ann.... (ermmm perhaps I should have lent you my camera eh:-O)

Sounds like that beach was a cracking place to visit though with all those Lifers on show.

Congratulations on all your lifers, Ann. There's no way you can get any closer to the birds on a sandy beach. That can be frustrating.

You did well under difficult conditions, Ann. Congratulations on all the lifers.
