Introduced from North America. Terrapins can often be found in a few lakes in the uk, probably put there as discarded pets.

.... yes, we've one on a loch near here too. I've only managed to see it once though.

On a local count of these guys we tallied more than 400 of these guys lined up and down the supports of the piers.
