Red-headed Barbet
This brightly coloured bird is a male Red-headed Barbet, one of many spectacular New World Barbets that occur within South and, to a far lesser degree, Central America. A predominantly fruit-eating species, it favours montane evergreen forest and can be seen in parts of Costa Rica and Panama, as well as in the Andes in western Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and far northern Peru. Clayton Burne photographed this feeding bird at Wildsumaco in Ecuador.
