Red kite over Cambridge city center (Milvus milvus)

  • Gleb Berloff
Watching peregrines in the early morning just before a round of storms hit Cambridge, I was surprised to discover a red kite soaring in the skies. I had seen it once before a couple of days ago. It passed directly over the nest, but what was strange was that, when the peregrinelets were literally screaming when a herron flew overhead, they did not mind the kite at all. It was flying extremely fast considering the wind. Nor did the father peregrine pay any attention to it, despite flying almost past it.
