Red Passionflower Vine
Red Passion Flower (Passiflora vitiflora: Passifloraceae) One of nearly 50 species of Passiflora in Costa Rica alone. It is found in the lowlands to nearly 1,000 m (3,280 ft) elevation. A fast growing clambering vine that grows 4.6-6.1 m (15-20 ft) long with crimson red flowers that are 10-12 cm (3.9-4.7 in) across and are said to be fragrant. Pollinated primarily by Hermit hummingbirds and an assortment of bees. Photographed along a forest trail at a clearings edge in Si Como No Lodges Wildlife Refuge in Quepos, Puntarenas Province, Costa Rica. Low wet rain forest.
