Red Shouldered Hawk? (possibly Buteo lineatus)

Possibly a red shouldered hawk, photographed at extreme distance. I saw it pass in the distance and noticed something dangling behind it. Thought it might have been tangled in something like rope or twine, but on closer inspection looks like this guy caught himself a large garter snake for lunch.

Can't help you on the ID, although I suspect you're right. I believe Red-Shouldereds do have white bands across the tail with one band sometimes broader than the others. Good shot, though, so you should be able to get the ID confirmed or corrected in ID forum.
