Red-tailed Hawk??? (Buteo jamaicensis)

We picked up my granddaughters Bronwyn and Saabrah from school yesterday afternoon. We sat out on deck chilling, and enjoying a beer, when this guy perched in a tree about four houses down. Off I went, trundling along the street, trying to get within a decent range, neighbours thinking , whats this guy up to? It was great to see quite close-up, and the way smaller birds were mobbing it, as it at in the tree.

Super capture, Mali, I am glad you're finding lots of new birds.
By the way, I believe it's a Red Shouldered Hawk that you got there

Also, forgot to tell you, you posted it under "Birds of Britain and Europe". Ask one the moderators and they'll fix it and put it in the proper category.

Wow Mali, you must be having a great time over there!Don't the neighbours know that you're a 'birdman'..lol...New ones by the dozen eh?
Beautiful shot, by the way! thanks for sharing!

Nice hawk, Mali. I like the story about the smaller birds mobbing it. I sometimes see crows and red-winged blackbirds chasing hawks. It can be quite a scene!

Great catch, Mali  ! Super, mate ! I've moved the post across to "Birds of North America."

Great capture Mali
Sounds like you are enjoying yourself and making an impression ;)
Can you sit the grandchildren infront of your next catch please:t:

Mali: I agree with digishooter that it is a Red-tailed. Your bird has a white throat, and a little different tail banding, than that of a Red-shouldered. Bill

Sorry, Bill and Mark, I still say its a red shouldered Hawk, only because I seen to many (maybe had to many) in my garden and that one looks just like the ones I got and listen to every day. I just think the color is wrong for it to be a Red tailed, but I could be wrong. Someone from the east help me out, pleeeeease.
