One of 111 Redwings (and one Fieldfare!) in a horse field with some considerable shelter from the wind
Field with several horses
The Outwoods, Burbage, Leicestershire, UK
Date taken
February 1st 2008
Scientific name
Turdus iliacus
Equipment used
Canon 20D Sigma 400mm
I counted them all out and I ;)...well when I returned there were about 20 Blackbirds with them as well!

Incidentally, the horses made a useful ad hoc hide. They were already close to the edge of the field in the shelter of the tall hedge so I called them closer and walked along with them to get near to the birds, then just waited for some to come close enough for a shot. This one was still cropped quite a bit but one or two birds came very close but I couldn't get them all in focus - I was shooting from a standing position but dared not squat down to get level with them as any movement would have spooked them. Next time...
