Thanks for the funny and interesting comments everyone, a great read.

Actually I was sat very comfortably on some paved flags with my back up against a wall and the camera was on a tripod. Then it was just a case of sitting still and just letting the birds come close. All the fallen berries may have helped a little bit too.
