Redwing

Redwing (Turdus iliacus)

A short time ago I posted a shot of a Redwing with a fly which had settled on its plumage.

I've now re-examined the original sequence chronologically. In the next frame, taken a couple of seconds later, the bird is trying to scratch itself with a claw and is so contorted that it looks a right mess. In the following shot, this one, it's giving itself a good shake. So I guess it had been aware of the fly's presence and didn't like it!

"The unfavorable low angle is a burden for bird photographers", to quote jbpixels on another Gallery image.

Thank you for your kind comments on my pictures, and good birding!

That is the reason I carry a portable trampoline (lol). Those unfavorable low angles are a pain but its better than not having one at all. Thanks for the narrative, very interesting John!
