Ring-necked Duck

Ring-necked Duck (Aythya collaris)

This is a female Ring-necked Duck. The white band on the tip of the bill is a good field mark. Note the paler face contrasting with its peaked dark brown crown. The ring on the bill is much more obvious than the faint brown ring on the neck of the male which gives this species its name. However, a proposal in the AOS to change the name to "Ring-billed Duck" was not accepted.

She blends in so well with the colour of the water Joe, making for a fabulous monochrome image.

Many thanks for showing it to us my friend.
