Ruby-throated Hummingbird
On migration attracted to a flowering bottlebrush and a hummingbird feeder. They breed further north so the volunteers remove the feeders in May to encourage them to migrate. This is an adult male showing a black chin framing the top of the glittering red gorget. The ruby red is iridescent, produced by refractive microstructures in the feather barbules. It usually looks black unless reflected by light at just the right angle.
