Ruffled Jay in forest light (Garrulus glandarius)

Can't make up my mind whether this is a worn adult or a juvenile. Can anyone help me here please? I've never knowingly seen a juvenile Jay.
At the time I couldn't see past the beautiful light filtering through the trees and the fact that the bird hadn't noticed me coming.
