Santa Marta (emerald) Toucanet (Aulacorhynchus lautus)

Avibase says ' Aulacorhynchus lautus :Species status: full species (sometimes a subspecies).
This taxon is considered a subspecies of Aulacorhynchus [albivitta, griseigularis or lautus] (sensu lato) by some authors'

Whichever it is, it's cracking bird to me.....

.... not just a cracking bird for you Max... but a cracking picture for the Gallery too.

This one is still lumped with Emerald Toucanet, as not enough of the authorities have accepted the split to enable us to do so as yet. I'm going to find a way to add your picture to the article, so that when the split does happen, he'll be easily transferred.

Wow! This is one beautifully detailed closeup of this Toucanet max! A smokin' image guy.
 
That is a great picture of a Toucanet. I have had problems in the past getting good pictures of these birds-either deep in brush and limbs or severely backlighted from the sky. This one is very nice.
