Sapsucker

F6.3 1/400 ISO 800 E.C. 0 A nice surprise from this day. Walking along the shoreline slowly, in pursuit of warblers. I hear this fellow, not that far up this pine. F6.3 is not something I try to do that often with birds. The shutter speed needed a boost, at ISO 800 another thing I try not to do.
The i.d. of this Sapsucker is in question, with variations in plumages, and hybridization. To trap insects, they drill parallel rows of holes. As seen here. They winter in the West Indies.

A beauty of a shot Brian. You've got to see what they have done with my Muscadine Vines ;) The coloring is quite interesting in this shot.

Wonderful image Brian, looks like those settings worked well in this situation.

Great close up of this bird. Really like the setting, and the pattern of it's feathers, seen so clearly here. Very nice shot!
