The male is shimmering black and in the morning they will make a variety of noises - they are fairly social birds and the male will steal any thing blue around your camp site to decorate his bower to attract a female

They also can make a mess of your vegie patch. We used to have huge flocks of them on our property down NSW and they were a real pest. Nice shot David

Years ago when I lived in the bush in North-eastern Victoria, whenever I bought a new packet of clothes legs, I had to take out all the blue ones and leave them on a fence post for the Bower Birds - otherwise they would take them off the clothesline. :'D Sometimes they would take the yellow ones as well, even though I didn't actually leave those for them.
