The dull weather during my last winter birdwatching trip was just right for some slow motion pictures of crashing waves. I dove landscape photography as well in addition to bird photography. There are more landscape pictures from my last trip on my blog here: www.NatureMonitoring.com
Thanks Joelle. It was superb. Here are a few more landscape pictures from the same trip. I love this part of the country for seascapes. When there is some light it is even better. I got up three morning in a role trying to capture the sunrise but it was cloudy every day.
Well the speed varies and depends very much on what you want to do, how fast the movement is how much there is, etc. Here I think I have used 1 second. I quite like the effect of 1 second on waves. Here are a few more landscape images from Bulgaria on my blog which you may like.
So if you want to show dynamics in the water then you may want to use fairly low speed as about 1 second. If you want to capture only say water drops making lines then 0,3-0,8 might be enough. If you want absolutely calm sea then you might need about 20-30 seconds but in day time you would need an ND filter or one of those LEE Filter say the Big Stopper. I love that one but still don't have it.
