Sedge Warbler

Sedge Warbler (Acrocephalus schoenobaenus)

This rather bedraggled Sedge Warbler spent the day on our ship in the North Sea. It hid most of the day but became active towards dusk after the three Willow Warblers had left. Here it is hunting Silver Y moths under the bar stools on the rear deck. The buff coloration and the freckles on its lower throat suggest this was an immature bird. This species is a long distance migrant wintering entirely in Sub-Saharan Africa.
