'Should have said as well, Delia, I didn't see him at first because I was lying down behind some grass waiting patiently, but ultimately pointlessly, for a grasshopper warbler, buried in a shrub, to perch somewhere. Because I was lying down the owl didn't see me and he was hunting in the fields and heading straight my way: he must have gotten within 10 to 15 metres of me and he was just off the ground. If he'd have kept going for another couple of seconds he'd have hit me straight on the head!
