American Robin (Turdus migratorius)

We have robins all year long, even when we get a touch of snow as seen in the background. However, this is a special robin. Out of the many that frequent our yard, this one "owns" a section of our deck railing. We put apples slices out for her (my wife has decided it is a female), which she vigorously defends against the mockingbirds and squirrels. She wins against mockingbirds, but loses to the squirrels.

When the apple slice is gone she flies over to the perch outside my kitchen window and stares at me until I put out more apple. In return she poses for me.

What an act of commensalism, though it is clear that the bird is dictating the relationship. Good shot.
