Brown on Brown (Pipilo fuscus)

One of the problems with living in the desert is the lack of green grass. We keep our grass to a very small area due to the lack of water. The Canyon Towhee is our most prolific resident towhee (we also get Green-tailed and Abert's). Towhees tend to stick low to the ground, so he never really gets a lot of green for a photo.
Habitat
Can be found in dense brush or foraging on the open ground nearby.
Location
Backyard, Hereford, Arizona, USA
Date taken
May 28, 2008
Scientific name
Pipilo fuscus
Equipment used
Canon 1d Mark III with 100-400 IS Lens and 1.4 teleconverter
Three nice posts Lisa, good use of like colours in this shot, nice job.

Certainly, this fellow can camouflage well in its environment, with those "earthy hues"! ;) He sure feels "at home" in the desert! Thank you for introducing us this chappie through this lovely and detailed image! Well done, Lisa!!! :t: :t: :t:

Thank you Mali and Marian. I love watching these guys hop around and play - they seem to be some of our more playful birds in the yard.

:clap:This is not an easily taken picture due to the lack of strong contrast. Not only do I think this is a great shot but technically you are spot on Lisa.
Brian.
