Coming out party
Big night for cicadas. We always see the cast-off shells in the morning, so I decided to hold a vigil through the night. One had already gone through the nymph-to-emerged phase, and stopped by to watch the birth of her post mate. The entire process takes about 45 minutes, from emerging from the ground, to anchoring on the birthing spot, to bursting forth, spreading wings, and hanging to dry.
