Southern House Wren with flatworm
Southern House Wren (Troglodytes aedon carabayae) Clements presently recognizes 32 subspecies of House Wren broken into four groups. The Northern House Wren, the Caribbean House Wren, the Brown-throated House Wren, and the Southern House Wren. Two subspecies of the Southern House Wren occurs in Peru. Subspecies puna is restricted to northern Peru in the Puna Life Zone at 3,400-4,500 m (11,155-14,764 ft) elevation, whereas subspecies carabayae is found in Central and Southern Peru at lower elevations. Photographed on a roof top in the Village of Aguas Calientes, Cusco Region, Machu Picchu District, Urubamba Province, Peru setting on the banks of Rio Urubamba. Disturbed secondary montane evergreen forest with ornamentals @ 2,040 m (6,693 ft) elevation. Humid Subtropical Life Zone. Sexes similar.
