Smew (Redhead) (Mergellus albellus)

The weather conditions and my body posture make this probably the hardest shot I have taken. Isolating the bird among about 50 coots that had coralled in to an unfrozen patch of water was going to be near impossible but lady luck went my way. I just don't know how some of you guys manage at -30!
Habitat
Frozen Lake
Location
Clifton CP Greater Manchester
Date taken
24th December 2010
Scientific name
Mergellus albellus

Excellent eye level image Adrain, hope you shook the water out of camera :) :t: :t:

Excellent image, Adrian; great angle, detail, and colours, very well done mate. (I'm used to low temps from Fishing for most of my life, but I must admit that I've still not mastered keeping the camera steady while shivering|=)|)

Thanks:t:

When I finished I couldn't care about the camera:eek!: ...I was soaked and it was freezing and a 4 mile walk through deep snow....the stupid things we do:eek!:
