Japanese Pygmy Woodpecker
The bird books say that the male of this species has two difficult to see (in windy conditions, or in fighting) red spots on the back of its head. Today is the first time I have see these in ten years of watching this bird near my house (where it is super-common). So, I'm posting these just to show it's true. In the first photo from the side, you can just about make out the red spot. In the other two, you can see them clearly.
