With Temps headed over 40C (104F) here and watching massive snow dumps in the UK on TV, I thought I'd post this Winter shot of a Woodland remnant out in the country to cool me down ! :-O

This particular shot was some of my regeneration work to augment the Old Growth remnant. It was paticularly cold this morning, and my poor little plants were frozen ! Luckily they were advanced enough to survive.

The place was in a bit of a local frost hollow and I recorded temperatures on this property ranging from -11C (12F) one winter to 47C (116F) one summer ...... quite insane really :eek!: and amazing that the vegetation could survive (just !:) this massive 58C (104F) temperature range :t:

That really is amazing temperature shift, isn't it Chosun. A friend on here who lives in Lithuania has temperatures going from -30c to +30!!! We feel hard done by if it goes to -5, though I have known -10!

This is a lovely picture lass - and a great reminder for you of that place. Thanks lass.

Thanks Delia :t: Yes, big swings ! It doesn't happen every year, but is more aligned with the El Nino (drought) and La Nina (flooding) cycles. Mostly the extremes occur during the Winter and Summer of El Nino years (drought) , which make up about half of every decade. You might get 1 or 2 La Nina (flooding) years a decade, and the balance is around about average.

I remember this -11C morning well .... the slow combustion fire roaring, No Water! because all the pipes were frozen, crunchy grass when you walked on it, and iced leaves - anything new growth, or younger plants was for the high jump ! :gn: :eek!:

Oh, and piercing dry cold that would seep through your bones - I think the sun won the battle for the day just about lunchtime, when we hit +C temperatures again! :)

Living on the land like that it's fascinating to 'feel' the changing (and out of step cycles) of the seasons and 'see' how nature responds, and of course, the beautiful, ever changing light ..... :)
