South Island Robin.

South Island Robin. (Petroica australis)

Last posting from my recent trip to Fiordland. This male was chirping cheerfully, probably to let us know we were in his territory. Usually taking a (back lit) shot looking upwards through trees/branches is not very satisfactory, but on this occasion the contrast was sufficient to give a clear sillhouette. It would be a good test to attempt an ID from this photo: the upright stance and longish legs are very characteristic.

Indeed, you're right Chris. In fact very much the stance and shape of 'our' Robins.

Thanks lad - I think you had a great trip, didn't you.
