Eastern Pond Hawk
Eastern Pond Hawk (Erythemis simplicicollis: Libelullidae) 3.6-4.8 cm (1.4-1.9 in). Male, species sexually dimorphic. Perched on floating vegetation. The dark red is Carolina Mosquito Fern (Azola caroliniana: Azollaceae). The large green fronds are Duckmeat (Spirodela polyrhiza: Lemnaceae) Following in size is Lemna sp., and Wolfia sp. both belong to Lemnaceae family.
Habitat
Gulf Coast Prairies and Marshes Vegetational Area. Shoveler Pond, freshwater marsh.
Location
Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge, Chambers County, Texas, USA.
