Starling - male

Starling - male (Sturnus vulgaris)

This shows the blue base of the bill well, so it should be a male (Assuming all that I've read on sexing these birds is true, and that this bird isn't an exception to the rule. Also, the base colour only shows like this if the birds are in breeding plumage... apparently - at least it's the only time I can see it).

Apologies in advance if I don't get back to comment on pics today - so far it's 12:2 to me... I've saved 12 Fledglings, but the Cats have got 2... bastards

Two beautiful images of this male and female Starlings Chris and a good information on identifying their sexes.

Gosh!!! You know I've heard of this before Chris, but really never looked at the ones I've photographed (slap wrist!!!)

That's a great couple of pictures you've got showing this... good luck with rescuing the babies!

Wonderfully detailed close up, Chris, showing the colours and iridescence well. Interesting info too.

Wonderful iridescence of this handsome 'hunk', brought out in this image, Chris.

Stunning shot!
