Crown of head, nape of neck and back are brown. Sides of head, neck and lower breast are gray. Black abdomen. Red bill and pink legs. Both sexes are alike. The immature are like the adults, but duller and more grayish brown, with gray bill and feet, and mostly gray belly with some black spots. Males and females are identical. Sizes average 47-51 cm (19-20 in) and weight of 652-1020 g (23.02-36.01 ounces).
